Volunteer Program

AMI volunteer internship program provide students with an opportunity to work directly with some of the most renowned business and social leaders, scholars, economists, scientists, and decision makers conducting research on today’s prominent public policy and economic questions.

AMI volunteer internships are unpaid, require a monthly 16 - 21 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

Project Lead

 

Job Summary:

AMI’s volunteer Project Lead gives selected volunteer interns the opportunity to gain experience in leading investment conferences and pitch events for innovation and entrepreneurship; as well as skills training in areas such as fundraising, investment event planning, and program planning.

The Project Lead Volunteer Intern would gain leadership skills and project management  experience, greater knowledge of top practitioners and stakeholders on AMI subject areas, in addition to unparalleled exposure to high-level policymakers.

 

Languages: English, Chinese, or Both

 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

•   Providing general support for the AMI daily operations

•   Coordinating AMI Pitch Battle and Annual Conference logistics, including preparing invitations, corresponding with attendees, and preparing background papers and materials for distribution

•   Tracking AMI activities for impact and record-keeping

•   overseeing monitoring, evaluation, and learning

•   managing and supervising event coordinators and social media coordinators including by prioritising tasks and deliverables for them, ensuring quality control, and issuing monthly status reports of all project activities

 

Qualifications

•   Undergraduate students with a focus in business, marketing, public policy or related field of study

•   Excellent project management skills and prior internship experience a plus

•   Strong communication, writing, and editing skills

•   Excellent computer skills, especially knowledge of Microsoft Office

•   High level of professionalism and high attention to detail

•   Interest in science, technology, and innovation policy a plus

Event Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

AMI is looking for an Event Coordinator with relative experience coordinating events. Our ideal candidate has successfully worked on events with 100+ attendees. The Event Coordinator will oversee every aspect of the event and coordinate with vendors, exhibitors and stakeholders during event planning. S/He will support the lead event manager to ensure successful execution of the event and exceptional client and guest management. Excellent time management skills and advanced knowledge of Graphics Programs, Excel and Google Docs will be critical for his/her success. It is important that the candidate is able to work on short notice helping the team work effectively. S/he also is able to stay calm under pressure, handle stress well, be able to effectively negotiate, able to handle multiple projects/activities at once and be well organized.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Support the lead event manager in planning as directed.

•   Take a proactive role in helping to organize, plan and execute AMI events as needed with a focus on administrative tasks such as meeting management, event setup and tear down, onsite execution, post-event reporting and more.

•   Coordinate with vendors, exhibitors and stakeholders during event planning.

•   Track event expenses and review accuracy of invoices.

•   Track event budgets, contracts, payables, ensuring budgets are adhered to.

•   Anticipate project needs, work with event sponsors, manage event calendar and scheduling, discern work priorities, monitor event timelines ensuring deadlines are met.

•   Supervise the set-up, running, and break down of the event, identifying and resolving problems.

•   Create graphic presentations, sponsorship package, invitations, flyers, email.

•   Assist in the design and editing of a variety of event promotional materials, work with printer and designer to develop these materials.

•   Event set-up, communicating with staff, organizing vendors, and managing take-down.

•   Provide onsite lead support for event logistics, venue, guests and vendors.

•   Support with event registration, tracking and registering guests.

•   Research potential vendors, call for quotes, secure services and provide instructions

•   Craft and prepare post-event communiqués and thank you letters

 

Qualifications:

•   Must be available to work at lease 5 hours per week

•   Major in Marketing, Mass Communications, Public Relations or relative majors, must be able to provide student id and returning to school in Fall 2019

•   1 years’ work experience in events, marketing, and/or project management is a plus

•   A diverse portfolio of experience including but not limited to meetings, annual conferences, exhibition management, special events.

•   Advanced PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Google Docs skills

•   Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, pleasant phone manners and etiquette

•   Excellent time management and organizational skills

•   Ability and willingness to quickly learn new skills, systems, and processes.

Media Contributor

Job Summary:

AMI is looking for a motivated and talented Media Volunteer Intern to join our growing media team. The Media Volunteer Intern will be highly supervised by senior team members and is required to assist in the planning, implementing and maintaining of media campaigns. This position is essential to the day-to-day running of the media accounts and requires an individual that works well in a team-based, fast paced, detail-oriented environment. While advanced media thinking is not expected, the successful AMP is resourceful and demonstrates the initiative to participate in advanced projects. This is a tremendous opportunity to collaborate with all departments in the agency and grow, learn and be creative in a fast-paced environment.

The Media Volunteer Intern will gain valuable experience by reaching out mainstream media partners and planning media campaigns for AMI activities. The Media Volunteer Intern would assist in preparations for the both the convening, release, and promotion of Task Force reports, one of the Council's most important and widely distributed products.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Providing general media content support for the AMI activities and events

•   Update industry news and develop the media contents accordingly

•   Editing, proofreading, and fact-checking drafts of AMI media release and various reports

•   Assist in development of media strategies and recommendations and take a lead role in assimilation of research data and vendor specifications.

•   Responsible for campaign set-up, account record keeping including insertion orders, vendor invoices, client authorizations, Advantage/vendor invoicing, and tracking report.

•   Understand the benefits and roles of media channels, including Digital, TV, Radio, Print, and OOH as well basic understanding of how offline media can be integrated with online and social media

•   Executional knowledge of paid social platforms, including Weibo, WeChat, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Email Newspaper

•   Stay up to date and be a resource on the latest news and technology that affects our industry and clients

•   Assist AMI scholars to develop the media contents for their research projects.

 

Qualifications

•   Undergraduate students with a focus in mass communications, advertising, marketing, social media or equivalent relevant experience

•   Undergraduate students with a focus in biotech, AI, engineer, clean energy or equivalent relevant experience is a plus

•   Rich experience in social media including Weibo, WeChat, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Email Newspaper

•   Excellent research skills and prior internship experience a plus

•   Strong communication, writing, and editing skills

Membership Coordinator

 

Job Summary:

AMI is looking for the Outbound Coordinator to develop the new members. Most AMI members are C-level professionals, expertises, scholars who are based in U.S.A, Canada and China, the goal for the outbound coordinator is to develop the new members for AMI and maintain the long-term relations with existing members.

Inbound Coordinator:

Key Responsibilities:

•   Create and implement plan to recruit members and prospective member in cooperation with other Membership reps.

•   Actively recruit new members, and contribute to communications pieces focused on member recruitment.

•   Assist in coordinating one program during the year specifically for membership recruitment and retention, as budget allows.

•   Build and coordinate distribution of prospect member’s survey to determine needs and interests.

•   Welcome members with an email, by phone or in person at meetings as they join or renew

•   Coordinate and host all member engagement events, including quarterly New Member Orientation and monthly Business After Business events

 

Qualifications

•   Develop and expand your portfolio of work

•   Network with local communicators and the local business community

 

Outbound Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

•   Create and implement CRM strategy to build up a long-term relations with current members
Meet the needs of potential and existing members through the provision of benefits and services

•   Oversee and expand the AMI’s membership services and affinity programs

•   Coordinate and host all member engagement events

•   Add member value by making connections among and on behalf of AMI members

•   Play an active role at AMI events and positively represent the AMI in the community

•   Work closely with the other volunteers and AMI team with marketing material and social media initiatives

•   Contribute to a healthy team environment, conducive to high morale and satisfactory interaction between and among all chamber employees, volunteers and member

IT Volunteer

 

AMI is seeking the IT Volunteer to monitor, diagnose, and resolve technical issues on all devices and network systems.

 

Languages: English, Chinese, or Both

 

Key Responsibilities:

•   Maintain and update the AMI website and email system

•   Maintain and solve all technique issues of AMI social media accounts

•   Monitors applications to ensure compliance with licensing agreements and system availability.

 

Qualifications:

•   Undergraduate students with a focus in IT, computer science

•   Experience in website building

•   Experience with IT Infrastructure technologies, such as DNS and Windows 10
